DEVELOPING PERSONAL AND FAMILY CEREMONIES

Using the seven principles of ceremony from The Power of Ceremony: Restoring the Sacred in Our Selves, Our Families, Our Communities, Linda Neale helps participants to build their own personal or family ceremony based on their particular spiritual orientation.    Listening, intention, preparation, structure, symbols, prayer, and the unexpected are all considered in this workshop. Examples of ceremonies that can be developed include weddings, personal prayer rituals, birthdays, rites of passage, elder ceremonies, house blessings, funerals, and ancestor honorings.  The three basic types of ceremony -- healing, transition, and celebration -- are reviewed, as is the concept of "liminality".   Restoring ceremony to a place of prominence in our culture is one way to develop a closer relationships to our Earth, Spirit, and our fellow human beings.
